Wildlife all over Southwest Florida have been moved out of their homes after Hurricane Helene.
“They're hiding in culverts, they're hiding in retention ponds, and they're just out in their natural habitat, so when this water comes in, it kind of picks them up and moves them,” said Rob Howell with Ranger Rob Wildlife Rescue.
Howell said he's had calls about wildlife being displaced all over Southwest Florida after Helene rolled through.
“We need to get these animals into places where they can be relocated. Florida Fish and Wildlife does good relocation with tortoises and all kinds of wildlife that needs that help, so it's all hands on deck right now,” Howell said.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office posted pictures of a displaced gator on Captiva over the weekend.
Plus, a Collier County Sheriff’s Office drone captured video of a gator lurking in flood waters along San Marco Road.
A baby bull shark was also spotted at Lakes Park, and Florida Fish and Wildlife posted pictures of stranded manatees.
When animals get moved out of the water they live in, Ranger Rob said the safest way is to just call FWC.
