Two men were arrested early Thursday morning after a Florida Highway Patrol trooper spotted them street racing on Livingston Road near Golden Gate Boulevard.
According to FHP, 34-year-old Alexander Cushman and 25-year-old Eduardo Pascual-Perez were racing side by side when the trooper saw their vehicles revving their engines at a red light before speeding down Livingston Road.
Cushman, driving a black Ford pickup truck, reached a speed of 88 miles per hour, while Pascual-Perez, behind the wheel of a yellow Nissan sports car, hit 95 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone.
Despite denying they were racing, both men were arrested on the spot. Their vehicles were impounded for 30 days. Pascual-Perez was also cited for having a modified exhaust system.
According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles , more than 11,000 citations have been issued for street racing and stunt driving across the state between 2018 and 2024. Most of those cited fall within a younger age group, with a median age of 21.
This year alone, more than 2,100 street racing citations have been issued in Florida.
