Students, families, teachers and staff from schools all across Southwest Florida are likely to be impacted by closures due to Hurricane Milton, which is expected to become a major hurricane. Below are schools that will be closed at some point this week.
Lee County School District
Schools closed Monday through Thursday.
Statement: The District has made the decision to close all schools and suspend all before and after-school programs and extra-curricular activities from Monday, October 7, 2024 through Thursday, October 10, 2024.
This includes all previously scheduled events.
Collier County Public Schools
No closures announced
Statement: CCPS is monitoring Tropical Storm Milton in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico.
We will provide timely updates on all official CCPS communications channels regarding any changes to school and district operations as the situation develops.
Charlotte County Public Schools
Schools closes Monday through Thursday.
Statement: In response to the approaching Tropical Storm Milton, all Charlotte County Public Schools will be closed starting Monday, October 7, and will remain closed through at least Thursday, October 10, to prioritize the safety of our students and staff.
We will provide updates as soon as possible after the storm to assess whether schools can safely reopen on Friday, October 11.
DeSoto County School District
Schools closed Monday through Thursday.
Statement : In light of Hurricane Milton, we are continuing to monitor the situation closely and have made the decision to close all schools for both students and staff from Monday, October 7 through Thursday, October 10.
School administrators and custodial teams are required to report to their respective schools on Monday to prepare the buildings for the weather event. All buildings will close at noon on Tuesday, October 8 and remain closed through Thursday.
Glades County Schools
Schools closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Statement
: After careful consideration and based on information provided by the Glades County Emergency Operations Center, we have decided to close schools on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the approaching storm.

Statement: FGCU is shifting to remote operations on Monday, October 7. FGCU is closing campus to all activities, including events and classes Tuesday, October 8 and Wednesday, October 9. A decision about Thursday operations will be announced Wednesday.

Statement: Over the past 24 hours, we have already seen an increase in rainfall that is causing flash flood warnings in parts of Southwest Florida, and the tropical moisture is expected to continue ahead of the storm's landfall...
With all of that in mind, and out of an abundance of caution and uncertainty of where the storm will make landfall, Canterbury School will be closed from Monday through Wednesday. After the storm passes, we will provide further information regarding plans for Thursday and Friday.
