LEE COUNTY, Fla. —

Kendra Mancini was among the thousands of people in Cape Coral preparing for Hurricane Milton, which will be her first hurricane.

"I’m a little nervous, but hopefully we will be OK," Mancini said.

She stopped at Sam's Club along Pine Island Road, however, the items she needed weren't there.

"They don’t have any water, they don’t have any toilet paper or paper towels paper products," she said.

Elsewhere some people waited over an hour in line for gas, hoping to fill up before the storm.

"I don’t plan on evacuating; I’m filling up just in case, and I hope to never use it," said Van-Zanten.

"We got gas; we already have propane. I’m good to go," said Karianne Massengill.

On Sunday afternoon in South Lee County, Alfredo Urbina decided to install hurricane shutters. He didn't put them up during Helene and wants added security for his home.

"It looks like it’s going towards more like Southwest Florida, which is the spot; I do want to prepare; I don't want to be like Helene, just like, 'Oh, I know it's not going to hit us.' I do want to get prepared, and I do want to be ready for that," Urbina said.

As thousands in Lee County Brace for Milton and what it might bring.

"I’m hoping for the best, prepared for the worst," Van Zanten said.

"Watch the news reports; if you have to make a plan to leave, do it quickly, sooner than later," Mancini said.
