As Hurricane Milton makes its way toward Florida's coast, it is essential to protect yourself and your pets.
Gulf Coast High School is one of several emergency shelters set to open on Tuesday as Milton gets closer.
General population shelters will open at 4 p.m., including Gulf Coast High School, Immokalee High School, Golden Gate High School and Oakridge Middle School.
Pet-friendly shelters include Corkscrew Middle School, Cypress Palm Middle School and Golden Gate Middle School.
If you are planning to bring your pet, make sure to bring supplies and keep them crated, since they will be kept in a separate area.
For those with special needs, a designated shelter will open at Palmetto Ridge High School at 2 p.m.
This is for pre-registered people who need electricity or nursing care. A family member or caregiver must be present.
Remember, services at all shelters will be very limited - so bring essentials like medications, food, water and bedding.
