The NOAA is on the hunt once again as Hurricane Milton makes its way closer to our shores.
Their aircraft which they call Miss Piggy (N43RF) is fueled up and ready to collect some data on Milton. The crew will complete 4 passes through the hurricane before returning back to safety.

The NOAA crew when they make their flights have a primary goal to collect information, not just cool up close shots of hurricanes. But what kind of information is worth such a risk?
Well the kind keeping you and I safe. A lot of our forecast models rely on data these dare devils collect. According to their website " the agency's high-flying meteorological stations help forecasters make accurate predictions during a hurricane and help hurricane researchers achieve a better understanding of storm processes, improving their forecast models" ultimately giving meteorologist the best ideas of wind and pressure changes.
These missions help us plan in advance for hurricanes, ensuring massive systems don't show up on our doorstep unexpectedly. We have time to make preparations and evacuate thanks to brave scientists like the crew of Miss Piggy.
