Crews working to restore power in Southwest...

CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

Tens of thousands of people in Cape Coral had to resort to using a generator because they had no power. NBC2 spotted several FPL and LCEC crews working on Friday throughout the area, working hard to recover the power.

"We've just hunkered through it," said Lyman Becker.

Lyman Becker, a Cape Coral resident, lost power Wednesday night. He had to resort to using his generator, like several thousands of others around the area, just in case something went wrong.

"We're fortunate we're up here at the high point of the Cape, and we're good, so, no flooding," Becker said.

"You have to assess the damage so that you can create a strategy and determine where you need to send crews," said Karen Ryan, the public relations director from LCEC.

Ryan said crews from all over the country are working to restore power in Southwest Florida — 700 of them are in Cape Coral.

"They just left other hurricane restoration efforts and came here. So just be patient with them. They are working around the clock, and they will keep working until everybody has power," Ryan said.

Power that everybody needs for the road recovery.

It just takes time, and people don't realize what's involved; those people are heroes, no doubt about it," Becker said.
