The city of Marco Island was under a mandatory evacuation notice during Hurricane Milton, but not everyone left the island.
"Our whole neighborhood was really bracing for the worst. Many of the people on the street decided that it wasn't going to be safe, and they evacuated the street. As it started to thin down and pretty much we were almost the only ones on the street, I told everyone, hey, I'm here, you know, let me know if you have any questions," said Michael Josephs, of Marco Island.
Josephs, a resident of Wintergreen Court on Marco Island, decided to ride out the storm this week to ensure his neighbors were informed about storm surge flooding and high winds.
"I started to send videos to our friends, and they said, please keep them coming. Keep them coming. We want to know what's going on. It was quite challenging, let's put it that way. I mean, the winds were starting to really increase. I've never seen winds that high here on Marco Island. Then when that storm surge starts coming in down the street from both ends of the street, it gets kind of frightening," Josephs said.
Josephs then vlogged the entire experience, regularly checking on neighbors' homes and properties to see how Hurricane Milton was impacting local areas.
"I'll just say so for me, I was taught at a young age what comes around, goes around and do for your neighbor what you want them to do for you. That's why I do what I do," Josephs said.
The neighborhood did not have any homes flooded. As of Friday evening, the island has about 13% of residents without power.
