The National Weather Service released preliminary reports on the tornado that tore through Glades and Hendry counties during Hurricane Milton.
The tornado was one of many confirmed in Florida as the outer bands of the destructive Hurricane Milton lashed Florida.
The path length for the Clewiston tornado is estimated to be 70.8 miles, which is rarely heard of for tropically spawned tornados.
The Glades County tornado is classified (in the preliminary report) as an EF-3, with winds of up to 140 mph.
That is the strongest tornado on record in Southwest Florida.
Hurricanes and tropical storms have the ability to produce tornadoes. The National Weather Service said there had been 53 tornado warning issued by 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 41 of which were issued by the weather service in Miami.
