A burglary investigation is ongoing at a Fort Myers Circle K after someone broke in through the roof while they were closed for Hurricane Milton.
According to a report from the Lee County Sheriff's Office, all employees left the store along Summerlin Road on Monday, Oct. 7. It was closed and boarded up for the storm.
The report states when employees returned to the store Saturday, Oct. 12, they noticed ceiling tiles lying on the floor and a rope hanging from the side of the building.
Someone called the LCSO to have deputies investigate.
Deputies say they found a water gutter drain that appeared to be pinched and a damaged electrical box that could have been used to scale the building.
The report states deputies used a ladder to climb onto the roof and found that the rope was tied to an AC unit.
Deputies opened the AC unit closet and found damage to the ductwork, which looked like a person tried to get inside.
LCSO said the store's ATM and safe seemed to be tampered with, but secured.
The report states nothing appeared to be stolen or missing. The store has surveillance cameras, but they were down because the store lost power.
The sheriff's office said someone is pressing charges on behalf of Circle K.
