The NBC2 First Alert Hurricane Tracking team is tracking two features in the Atlantic basin for the potential of tropical development in the days to come.
Feature One: Invest 94L
The first feature being watched for tropical development is Invest 94L in the central Atlantic Ocean.
At the moment this area of low pressure is in an environment that is not conducive to strengthening.
But, as it moves toward the west or west-southwest through the work week it appears that it will find itself in an area where development chances would be more likely.
Because of this the National Hurricane Center is pegging development chances over the next 2 days at 10% with odds increased to 60% over the next 7 days.
Forecast data for now is showing high confidence in the feature tracking westward through the first half of the weekend.
After that, there is a wide spread in the forecast models in where the system would move. This is likely due to the involvement of a cold front near Florida.
For now, this feature is not a direct threat to Florida. Should things change, we'll keep you informed on NBC2 News.
Feature Two: Western Caribbean
A cluster of showers and thunderstorms in the western Caribbean Sea is also being marked with the potential of tropical development within the next week.
As of 8 p.m. Monday, the National Hurricane Center says the area highlighted in yellow has a 20% chance of becoming at least a tropical depression within the next week.
The Western Caribbean is often a tropical weather hot spot in the month of October.
It is too early to determine where anything that may develop in the western Caribbean may track over time.
