Last week, over 200,000 people in Lee County had no power due to Hurricane Milton and linemen have been working nonstop. In southeast Cape Coral, one woman wanted to help make a difference.
"I just wanted to give back to the community because I went through something life-changing very recently," said Missy Crisp.
Crisp is recovering from brain surgery to remove a tumor.
"It was just so overwhelming, the amount of prayers that I had received and donations from people that I didn't know and friends and the outpouring of love and kindness," said Crisp.
In the days after Hurricane Milton, she's been cooking for the linemen around Southwest Florida, who are working nonstop to restore power.
"We went all around Cape Coral. We have been to Pine Island, Burnt Store Road, Pine Island area, Publix, and everybody is just grateful, and when a lineman says that they haven't had a home-cooked meal for a really long time, it really brings tears to your eyes," said Crisp.
On Wednesday, she and her son focused on Sanibel, one of the last areas to still be without power. Chris Crisp is using this opportunity as a lesson.
"
It was fun the last couple days, it really makes you feel good when you can put a smile on somebody's face," said Chris Crisp.
Spreading kindness, one smile at a time.
"I just think it's really good to help people, and if we have the opportunity, we definitely have the ability and why not us," said Chris Crisp.
The family has served over 300 meals around the area and plans to continue to do so whenever a hurricane occurs.
