As Moore Haven High School reopens after Hurricane Milton, extra patrols will be on campus - though the killing of 16-year-old Ja'Yhanna Johnson happened a county over, in Hendry.
Heightened security was already planned before the two arrests that were made on Tuesday .
Johnson was shot and killed by a stray bullet while at a party on Friday night at Harlem Gardens in Clewiston.
Johnson was a cheerleader at Clewiston High School. Her family and friends say she was loved by so many people as they are left grieving with broken hearts, hoping for justice soon.
"It hurts our hearts to be tapped. The grieve like this over something that was never supposed to happen. We never expected this to happen, ever," a friend of Johnson, Emily Victoria Walker, said.
After a few days of searching for suspects, the Hendry County Sheriff's Office arrested two people allegedly connected to the shooting.
Although Johnson went to Clewiston High School, the Glades County Superintendent stated both communities are closely intertwined.
The extra patrols are for the safety of students and staff.
Family and friends of Johnson continue to grieve for this immense loss as they seek justice for the 16-year-old.
"There's just no words to put to it. So, you know, it's, it's going to be a healing process for all of us. I just I just pray that we get justice for J. Justice for for her and her family," Clewiston High School head cheerleading coach Marissa Johnson said.
NBC2 reached out to the family once we learned of these arrests, but they have asked for privacy during this time stating that this is as bad as it can get.
The Hendry County School District is offering grieving counseling for students who need it.
The Hendry County Sheriff's Office plans on sharing who they arrested on Wednesday afternoon.
