Cape Coral City Council approved amendments related to codes for car washes and storage facilities within the city.
The council approved an amendment, Ordinance 66-24, to Land Development Code for car wash facilities .
This includes locational and enclosure requirements, residential adjacency guidelines and specifications for landscaping, hours of operation and storage/display.
According to a city ordinance, there are 16 stand-alone car washes in Cape Coral. There are another nine accessory car wash facilities and 12 car washes in permitting or under construction.
The city council also approved a storage facility amendment , updating regulations for self-service storage facilities within the city limits.
Council says these changes aim to establish locational and operational standards, minimize the impact on nearby low-intensity uses, preserve valuable commercial land and promote a balanced economic landscape.
The modifications impose limits on total square footage, as well as requirements for location, enclosure, landscaping, outdoor storage, hours of access and other restrictions.
An estimated 1.6 million square feet of storage space is in permitting or under construction, bringing the total to more than 3 million square feet of self-storage space, existing or forthcoming.
