Tropical Storm Oscar
Tropical Storm Oscar formed late Saturday morning north of Hispaniola near the Turks and Caicos.
The first advisory from the National Hurricane Center shows Oscar moving west at 13 mph, with maximum sustained winds at 40 mph.
Oscar is expected to bring tropical storm conditions to portions of the southeastern Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands and eastern Cuba during the next day or so. A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for those locations.
Oscar is forecast to gradually strengthen as it crawls west near the western coast of Cuba Sunday into Monday, and then the storm will eventually turn north across the southern Bahamas early next week.
A stalled front southeast of Florida will keep the storm far enough away from Florida so that we won't see any tropical threats locally.
Tropical Storm Nadine
In addition to Oscar, we're also tracking Tropical Storm Nadine, which formed early Saturday morning in the far western Caribbean.
Tropical storm warnings have been issued for parts of Belize and Mexico where the storm will make landfall Saturday afternoon.
Thankfully for Florida, a strong ridge of high pressure over the central U.S. will keep the system moving west and well south of our state.
