One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash on Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers, near the intersection of Twin Brooks Road.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 79-year-old man in a SUV died and an 80-year-old woman in a pickup truck was seriously injured.
Troopers arrived on the scene and blocked off part of Bayshore for hours while they investigated. The scene cleared around 10:30 p.m.
FHP said the SUV was traveling east on State Road 78 (Bayshore Road), making a left turn onto Twin Brooks Road. The woman in the pickup truck was going west on State Road 78, on the outside lane, east of Twin Brooks Road.
The SUV then turned directly into the path of the pickup and the vehicles collided head-on. The 79-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene and the crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
