The city of Cape Coral started picking up debris Monday, as well as recycling and regular yard waste.
The city said the most important thing to remember as you're bringing your hurricane debris out to the curb is to separate it all.
People across Cape Coral seem to be doing just that.
“We were obviously here during Ian and learned quite a bit of separating your household goods that are damaged during the flood versus all of your vegetation versus just garbage that just appeared from your neighbors,” said resident Tammy Jeffery.
The city said you should have your debris separated into four categories: one for your regular trash, another one for yard debris, a pile for appliances and construction debris in a different pile.
“I put the debris out like that because Waste Pro won't pick it up. If you mixed up metal, branches and everything, they won't pick it up. So basically, the smart thing to do is just separate so it can be easier for them and for us as well,” said resident Reynaldo Rivero.
The city said it’s also important not to leave any food in your appliances at the curb and to not place anything under obstacles like trees or power lines.
