The NBC2 First Alert Hurricane Tracking Team is closely monitoring the movement of Tropical Storm Oscar as it moves north off the eastern side of Cuba.
With the most recent advisory at 11 p.m. Monday, Oscar was moving north-northeast at 8 mph with maximum sustained winds at 40 mph.
Despite Oscar's relatively close proximity to Florida, it's important to stress that the storm is forecast to turn north across the Bahamas and not be a direct threat to the peninsula.
Florida is being spared any direct impacts from Oscar thanks in part to a stalled front southeast of our state and a strong ridge of high pressure across the eastern half of the United States.

The forcing the storm to make a sharp turn is very noticeable as no data shows the possibility of the system moving toward the state.
Elsewhere in the tropics, no development is expected in the next seven days.
