Two teens are facing charges after a high-speed chase on Oct. 19 resulted in two crashes, a damaged deputy patrol car, and a barricaded suspect in a Fort Myers Neighborhood.
An LCSO deputy said he was patrolling near Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard close to 3 p.m. when he saw a Silver Hyundai Sonata swerving and making erratic turns near Marion Avenue.
When the deputy tried to stop the car along Gardenia Avenue, he said the Sonata reversed and rammed his patrol car, jolting him inside. The car took off.
Another deputy said he got a call that someone hit his shift partner's car intentionally and took off. The deputy spotted the Sonata speeding without headlights, swerving between lanes.
The deputy said he briefly pulled over, fearing a collision due to the Sonata’s erratic driving.
The Sonata turned onto Marion Street, nearly losing control before making a sharp right turn into a residential driveway, and crashed into a parked black Kia Sorento.
Two individuals exited the vehicle and fled. The driver, Keon Stokes, 17, allegedly ran inside of a home and barricaded himself inside of a bedroom.
Eventually, LCSO said Stokes left the room, and deputies arrested him. Deputies also arrested Jontavious Crawford, 17, who was in the passenger seat.
Deputies searched the vehicle and said they discovered two handguns, each with a round in the chamber, along with an empty handgun holster in the front passenger seat.
Keon Stokes, the driver, was arrested and charged with ramming the deputy’s patrol car and leading law enforcement on a pursuit. Jontavious Crawford was charged with possession of a firearm as a minor.
The third individual, whose identity is unknown, was charged with obstruction without violence for fleeing the scene.
Further details of the case were redacted, but all three individuals face serious charges as the investigation continues.
