An unarmed man was shot and killed outside his own home by two Charlotte County deputies Wednesday afternoon.
According to Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell, deputies were attempting to arrest Elroy Clarke on a warrant for failing to appear in court for trespassing.

Prummell said deputies responded to "a disturbance between two males." The people involved were identified as Elroy Clarke and Troy Johnson, according to Prummell.
Deputies spoke to both of them and determined it was a civil matter at that point.
According to Prummell, Clarke said he owned the residence and wanted Johnson, who had been staying there for the last three months, off his property. Johnson was reportedly doing some work at the home and the two had a dispute Wednesday.
Deputies discovered Clarke had a warrant out for his arrest.
Prummell said when they told him he was under arrest, Clarke refused to comply with the arrest.
According to Prummell, Clarke was "very non-compliant," and deputies tried to de-escalate the situation.
Prummell said numerous forms of "less lethal" items, such as a Taser used several times, pepper spray, baton and three deputies went hands-on with him but had no effect.
According to Prummell, Clarke threw the deputies off of him "like ragdolls." A deputy then took a shotgun with bean bag rounds and shot him several times, but that also had no effect.
Clarke then charged at one of the deputies and got his hands on the deputy, Prummell said.
The deputy then drew his weapon and fired. Prummell said two deputies fired their weapons in the incident.
Clarke died from his wounds. According to Prummell, the deputies are on administrative leave for protocol.
Prummell said CCSO is working with the State Attorney's Office as the investigation continues.
