Attorney John Morgan wants you to be able to smoke marijuana; now he's going after the state of Florida as voters hit the polls to decide on Amendment 3, whether to vote yes or no.
State Sens. Joe Gruters and Jason Pizzo and attorney John Morgan held a virtual news conference Friday morning to talk about the state campaign opposing the November ballot initiative.
"I think they might be trying to protect the youth because legalized marijuana means a more broader playing field," said Terrell Thomas.
"The ads that are talking about the smell of it and everything are just ridiculous that they're just trying to pinpoint something that isn't true," said Molly Boden.
NBC2 spoke with these voters on Friday. They have mixed opinions on Amendment 3; however, they both agree that taxpayer dollars on political ads are a problem.
People are just listening to them instead of really knowing, what's behind it, marijuana isn't the problem," said Boden.
So far Florida has run more than 13,000 political TV ads, 5,000 radio ads, as well as digital and billboard ads. Attorney John Morgan says taxpayers should be furious.
"This is about money; this is not about you because if it was about you, then the government would not be trying to give us false information about, you know, children being injured by gummies," said Morgan.
State Sen. Jason Pizzo (D-Sunny Isles Beach) said if Amendment 3 passes, it will save lives.
"Instead of something being laced with fentanyl on the on the corner that they buy at 2:00 in the morning, something that's vacuum sealed, quality controlled and lab tested this is going to save people's lives," said Pizzo.
"The thing I hope from all this that comes from all this is that you, the Florida taxpayers, are so outraged by this theft of tax dollars that you say, By God, I'm going to go out, and I'm going to vote," he added.
If Amendment 3 passes with 60%, it will legalize recreational marijuana for people 21 and up.
