The Fort Myers Yacht Basin sits in the perfect spot for boaters on their way out, right along the Caloosahatchee River in downtown Fort Myers. The new boat slips are built, but you'll notice that there are no boats and no people.
"It is hard to deal with sometimes. We had a lot of people actually live there, so we lost a good amount of business," said Katelynn Coy, a manager at Oxbow.
Oxbow restaurant sits right across the way from the yacht basin.
She says she's felt an impact from the development. Customers loved the view. Instead, they're left looking at a big fence surrounding the yacht basin and signs saying it is closed.
Back in September, we told you about Suntex — the company that bid to change the basin — changed its plans. Because of that change, the Army Corps of Engineers had to start the permitting process over. That's led to big delays in development. We asked the Army Corps of Engineers for an update.
They say that due to the location and large impacts of the project, they need more information before they can move forward with the permit.
"It was beautiful. It was what we imagined Florida to be like with the boats here and everything. We used to come down here and walk along the waterfront here and right now it's really kind of sad, but hopefully it comes back soon," said Cinder Danzey, a Fort Myers resident.
We reached out to the developer for an update on when the project will be finished. We're still waiting to hear back.
