The Town of Fort Myers Beach met with FEMA and other local agencies to discuss the beach's recovery from Hurricane Helene and Milton.
CEC estimates over 40,000 cubic yards of sand eroded from the town's beach project area that was already nourished before the storms.
However, most of it stayed on the surrounding beach, and the net loss due to the storms from Bowditch Park to Crescent Beach Park was 11,000 cubic yards.
The town will be requesting public assistance from FEMA to recoup the lost sand from the previously engineered, north segment of Estero Island.
The town's beach renourishment project is back to dredging and pumping sand onto the beach again after the double hurricane delay.
Currently, the beach construction project is moving onto the beach in front of Lynn Hall Park, according to city leaders.
Portions of the beach in front of Lynn Hall Park will be closed to the public as it is under construction.
