A Fort Myers man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for possessing a gun as a convicted felon.
According to the United States Attorney's Office, JD Irons Jr., 37, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The SAO says on Dec. 8, 2023, Irons was in the passenger seat of a car that fled from Fort Myers police officers as they were attempting a traffic stop.
A gun was found in the glovebox of the vehicle. Irons was found hiding in a nearby apartment.
The release says Irons was later linked to the gun through forensic testing.
As a convicted felon, it is illegal for irons to possess a gun.
According to the SAO, due to Irons' lengthy criminal history, which includes multiple prison sentences for drug crimes involving cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl, he qualified for enhanced sentencing.
Irons entered a guilty plea on July 24, 2024.
