Florida Power and Light Company is proposing a temporary surcharge on bills in 2025 after four hurricanes barreled through Florida in less than 14 months.
If state regulators approve, this would add about $12 to a typical 1,000 kilowatt per hour residential customer bill starting in January.
It would last one year and pay for FPL restorations after hurricanes Debby, Helene and Milton this year.
It would also replenish a reserve that was primarily depleted by last year's Hurricane Idalia.
Bills will still remain well below the national average, according to FPL.
