Kayakers and boaters headed out to Estero Island Saturday to remove discarded fishing lines and debris.
It was part of the annual Monofilament Madness.
Lee Ehrlich with the U.S. Coast Guard said searching for debris led groups to find a manatee who needed saving.
"Recently, we found a manatee that had been displaced," Ehrlich said. "It had actually risen up with the water level, and it had gone into a freshwater environment. 60 of us worked to save that manatee."
At the end of Mango street, volunteers removed items from that preserve left over from Milton, and even Ian. Peoples homes washed into the mangroves off Estero Island, like a huge pullout couch.
Tisha Bayne with Keep Lee County Beautiful said this year's event was especially important.
"We've had three storms in a row," Bayne said. "There's a lot of more debris out there."
