Susan Dahod has been frustrated by an unwelcome surprise every time she drives home: her car covered in concrete splatter.
After a recent trip, Dahod discovered her red vehicle coated in debris from nearby construction. “It was like speckled all over my car,” she said. Just after getting a wash, she found her car messy again upon crossing the bridge.
In the wake of recent hurricanes, Dahod expressed concern over the added hassle for locals trying to make their homes livable. She reached out on Facebook and found many residents, including Gary Krivacs, who shared similar experiences.
Krivacs recently noticed his car covered in concrete after a visit to his family. “I would rather be doing something else than hosing off my car every time I have to leave my island,” he said.
In response to complaints, the Florida Department of Transportation is taking action. A spokesperson confirmed that a sheet of plywood is being used to help prevent debris from hitting vehicles.
As construction continues in Bokeelia, residents hope these measures will spare their cars from further splatter.
