A convicted felon from Fort Myers pleaded guilty on Wednesday to illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and distributing controlled substances.
James Wallace Mathis, Jr., 44, sold drugs multiple times in July and August 2024, according to court records.
On one occasion in July, Mathis reportedly sold a loaded Ruger .380 caliber handgun to a law enforcement informant.
The Department of Justice said Mathis is a multi-time, convicted felon who previously served more than a decade in Florida state prison for various crimes.
Mathis is facing a maximum sentence of 55 years in federal prison. His sentencing date has not been scheduled yet.
