Thousands of customers across Lee and Collier counties are reportedly out of power Wednesday night.
According to the Florida Power and Light website outage map , thousands of customers are out of power in the Lee County area, especially in Bonita Springs.
Estero Fire Rescue said a storm came through Lee County leading to several transformers having small fires and/or arcing. Fire officials also said FPL is aware of the issue.
According to the Lee County Electric Cooperative , over 6,000 customers were out of power at Ave Maria (which is the Immokalee region).
LCEC said efforts were made to restore the power using automation, but there is a fault that requires on-site evaluation and possible repairs. Officials said a crew was en route and they are working to determine the cause.
LCEC also said the first rain after a major storm typically causes contaminants on the equipment to track, and it can spark or sizzle. According to LCEC, heavier rain is better for the system to wash salt and debris off facilities.
