The NBC2 First Alert Hurricane Team is monitoring the Caribbean for possible tropical development over the next 7 to 10 days.
As of Wednesday morning, the National Hurricane Center's 7-day Tropical Outlook highlights the southern Caribbean with a 40% chance of tropical development in the next 7 days and a 0% chance in the next 2 days.
Most computer forecast models agree that an area of low pressure will form in this area during the first few days of November and then potentially drift north or northwest. However, there's still some disagreement among the models regarding how well organized the system could become and whether it's just an area of low pressure or a tropical system.
Since any potential development is still several days away, it's too early to speculate on where the system could track, and more importantly, whether or not there would be impacts to the U.S.
For more historical perspective, it would be unusual for a big storm to impact Florida this late in the season. Since 1851, only three hurricanes have hit the sunshine state in the month of November.
