Thousands of customers across Lee and Collier counties were reportedly without power Wednesday night.
According to the Florida Power and Light website outage map , thousands of customers experienced outages in the Lee County area, especially in Bonita Springs.
Estero Fire Rescue said a storm came through Lee County leading to several transformer fires and/or arcing. Fire officials say FPL is aware of the issue.
According to the Lee County Electric Cooperative , over 6,000 customers were without power at Ave Maria in the Immokalee region.
LCEC said efforts were made to restore the power using automation, but there is a fault that requires on-site evaluation and possible repairs.
LCEC also said the first rain after a major storm typically causes contaminants on the equipment to track, and it can spark or sizzle. According to LCEC, light rain is worse for systems but heavier rain is better for the system to wash salt and debris off facilities.
