The odds are increasing for the possibility of tropical development in the Caribbean Sea within the next 7 days.
As of Thursday morning, the National Hurricane Center bumped up formation chances to 50% in the next 7 days while keeping development odds at 0% in the next 2 days.
Most computer forecast models agree that an area of low pressure will form in the Caribbean as early as the weekend and then potentially drift northward into next week.
There's still a lot of disagreement, though, among the various forecast models regarding how well organized the system could become.
Some models only develop a weak area of low pressure, but a few forecast models show the potential for a tropical depression or storm developing next week. Until something starts organizing, it's just too early to speculate on a potential track or if the U.S. could be impacted.
For more historical perspective, it would be somewhat unusual for a big storm to impact Florida this late in the season. Since 1851, only three hurricanes have hit the sunshine state in the month of November. The most recent storm to strike Florida in November was Hurricane Nicole in 2022, which made landfall near Vero Beach.
