A Naples man is facing multiple charges and was arrested after being accused of resisting officers on Sunday evening.
The Naples Police Department said officers responded to Fifth Avenue S for reports of a suspicious person.
Upon arrival, officers said they saw a man in the road blocking traffic and recognized him as Guillermo Soler, 33, from prior incidents.
Officers said they approached Soler and ordered him to get out of the road. Soler reportedly ran away northbound.
Officers caught up to Soler and attempted to secure him, but reports say that Soler resisted by tensing up and moving his arms around.
Naples police said Soler then reached for an officer's gun, grabbed it by the grip and forced open the holster.
Officers were able to remove Soler's hand from the gun before he reportedly used his other hand to scratch an officer and forcefully grab their hand, bending it backward.
According to reports, Soler was arrested and evaluated by Collier County EMS due to being under the influence of an unknown substance.
Soler is facing the following charges:
- Battery on specified personnel
- Failure to obey police
- Resist an officer with violence
- Disorderly conduct
