Tuesday is Election Day here in Southwest Florida and across the U.S., with key local, state, and national races. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. in Florida; however, with two time zones in the state, they will remain open until 8 p.m. ET in parts of the panhandle. This year, Florida voters decide not only on the next U.S. President and a Senate seat but also on several high-stakes local races, including the superintendent for the Lee County School District, marking the first election for this position following a 2022 referendum.
Key races in the region include the U.S. Senate contest between incumbent Republican Rick Scott and Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, alongside important ballot measures such as the legalization of marijuana and the protection of abortion rights under the Florida Constitution. Turnout is expected to be closely watched, especially following the impacts of hurricanes Helene and Milton.

Amendment 3 - Abortion Rights
Florida's Amendment 4 enshrines abortion rights in the state constitution by prohibiting state laws that restrict or penalize abortions before fetal viability. The amendment must pass by a 60% supermajority.
