For the fourth straight season, Seacrest Country Day School volleyball won the Class 1A state championship Wednesday.
The Stingrays took down top-seeded and fifth-ranked Boca Raton Christian 3-1 in the finals.
Seacrest took the first set 25-17 thanks to stellar play from senior outside hitter Sami Soderlund. The Stingrays remained perfect in the second set, 25-20. The third set is when Boca Raton Christian came alive.
The Blazers jumped out to an early lead and held off a late push from the Stingrays to take it 29-27. However, Seacrest would put the match away in the fourth with an Ellie Joffe kill that secured a 25-23 set victory.
After hoisting their fourth straight championship trophy, the Seacrest players credited their close relationships, hard work and fierce determination as the reasons why they won.
Seacrest is just the 11th school in FHSAA history to win at least four consecutive volleyball state championships.
Stingrays head coach Andy Wimmer said they are eyeing a fifth next year.
