In the final week of the high school football regular season, there were games all across Southwest Florida with playoff implications. However, none was bigger than Fort Myers versus Riverdale. The two Lee County schools went head to head with the Class 5A, District 11 title on the line. If the Raiders won, they would claim the championship outright. If the Green Wave played the spoiler, they would force a three-way tie atop the district standings.
The game started as a defensive battle with neither team getting an edge. Riverdale finally broke through, scoring the first touchdown. Fort Myers answered right back on the ensuing drive. Then, the floodgates opened. The Green Wave scored right before the half, a couple more times after the break, and held the Raiders scoreless in the final two quarters to secure a 28-13 win.
With Thursday night's result, Riverdale, Fort Myers and North Fort Myers are all tied at 2-1 in district play. So, the champion will come down to their state rankings, which will be released by the FHSAA on Friday evening.
