Residents in northwest Cape Coral are growing frustrated with an abandoned home left incomplete for months by Beattie Development. The property, filled with trash and overgrown vegetation, has become a major eyesore and health hazard for the neighborhood.
Anne Otwell, who lives nearby, says the conditions have made her once-quiet street unlivable.
"It feels like living in a garbage pail," she said, adding that rats and snakes have become a frequent problem. "I don’t walk my dog here anymore because of the rats chasing him."
Neighbors have shared photos showing food left behind by workers, which they believe attracted pests. Some even reported dead rats on the roof and damage to fences from rodents.
Despite repeated calls to the city, code enforcement, and Beattie Development, the problem remains unresolved. Otwell says Beattie Development should be held accountable.
"He needs to step up and take responsibility," she said.
This follows a similar situation on Northwest 30th Street, where homeowner Tamara Manning is suing Beattie for failing to complete her home after taking payment in 2022.
NBC2 reached out to Beattie’s lawyer for a comment but received no response.
