Cape Coral's iconic 'Big John' statue was taken apart on Sunday morning as it gets ready to undergo repairs.
Residents posted on Facebook as they tracked Big John's head on the move.
For more than 50 years the statue has stood over Cape Coral Parkway.
It survived Hurricanes Charlie, Wilma and Irma, but Ian proved too much for the statue.
The 150 mph winds twisted its iron frame, broke its back, and almost took the entire statue down. Big John lost about 15 feet after Ian.
The metal pole that is supposed to be holding Big Johns's upper body, was shooting out of his head.
Residents like Valerie Kitchen wanted Big John to be restored so he could continue to be a landmark for Cape Coral.
The 6,000-pound statue was dismembered and transported ready for repairs.
