A Federal Emergency Management Agency employee was fired after she allegedly directed workers to not go to homes with yard signs in support of President-elect Donald Trump.
On Saturday, FEMA released a statement regarding the incident, stating the employee told workers helping hurricane survivors to avoid Trump supporter's homes.
"This is a clear violation of FEMA’s core values and principles to help people regardless of their political affiliation," FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell said. "This was reprehensible."
FEMA did not share the identity of the employee, nor did they specify where the incident happened.
Southwest Florida political representatives are demanding answers after the claims of FEMA employees avoiding Trump supporters' homes.
Republican Congressman Greg Steube took to social media, calling for action following the alleged incident.
Steube said he wants a full investigation, as well as people fired.
"My district’s had enough disasters—did @fema really think they wouldn’t be caught denying aid over Trump yard signs? Trump supporters are left out while noncitizens get help? This is government weaponization at its cruelest," Stuebe wrote on X.
Southwest Florida Republican Congressman Byron Donalds joined Fox News to discuss the incident.
"Anyone involved should be FIRED IMMEDIATELY," Donalds' X post stated.
Florida Senator Rick Scott said anyone involved should be blacklisted from ever working in government again.
"We need to help EVERYONE regardless of their politics, & we sure as hell expect taxpayer-funded federal agencies to do the same," Senator Rick Scott said on X.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to call for an investigation.
DeSantis called it a "blatant weaponization of government by partisan activists" while adding that this incident is "another reason why the Biden-Harris administration is in its final days."
According to DeSantis, the Division of Emergency Management is launching an investigation into the federal government's "targeted discrimination of Floridians who support Donald Trump."
FEMA employees have been in Florida helping residents recover from Hurricane Milton, which devastated many communities in October.
Many Florida GOP politicians are calling for an investigation into the federal agency and for terminations.
