A Fort Myers man was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday for attacking another inmate in jail.
According to a release from the State Attorney's office, Joseph Rochford, 35, and the victim were serving time in the Lee County Jail.
The victim was a state witness in a case against Rochford.
The release said Rochford snuck into the victim's cell before attacking them.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office then searched Rochford and his cell, finding homemade tattooing equipment and a metal shiv.
Rochford was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison for witness tampering, habitual felony offender, prison release reoffender, carrying a concealed weapon as a convicted felon, introduction of contraband into a jail, and battery.
