A human head washed ashore on Key Biscayne Tuesday morning.
NBC6 Miami reports police responded around 8:30 a.m. near the 200 block of Crandon Boulevard.
Miami-Dade police said a person raking the beach found the remains and notified law enforcement who confirmed it was a human head.
Photos show investigators at the scene examining the remains. A section of the beach was closed, according to NBC6.
The medical examiner is working to identify the person.
Police said homicide detectives are investigating.
