Florida Senator Marco Rubio has been nominated by President-Elect Donald Trump to serve as the United States Secretary of State.
Rubio was a one-time critic of Trump and evolved into one of the president-elect’s fiercest defenders; now to become the nation’s top diplomat.
Trump's transition team said in a statement, "Marco is a Highly Respected Leader, and a very powerful Voice for Freedom. He will be a strong Advocate for our Nation, a true friend to our Allies, and a fearless Warrior who will never back down to our adversaries."
Rubio was born in Miami and is the son of Cuban immigrants.
After graduating from the University of Florida and the University of Miami Law School, he served as a city commissioner in West Miami and later as Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. In 2010, he won a seat in the U.S. Senate.
Trump made the announcement while flying back to Palm Beach from Washington D.C. after meeting with President Joe Biden.
