A mistrial was declared on Friday in the case of a former Hendry County deputy facing charges for use of excessive force.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, a mistrial was declared after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict on either count in the indictment.
In July of 2023, former Hendry County deputy Tyler Williams was charged for slamming a hand-cuffed man unconscious and writing a false justification for the use of force in an incident report.
The interaction occurred while Williams was on duty and was captured by his body cam.
If convicted, Williams will face up to 30 years in prison on charges of excessive force and obstruction of justice.
The case has been reset for trial on December 16 later this year.
