Border Patrol and the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office arrested eight undocumented immigrants after raiding a home in Port Charlotte.
A family is facing intense fears after a recent immigration raid at home on Little Falls Avenue, and only NBC2 spoke to one of their family members.
Emioze Rodriguez said some of her family members are now in the custody of Immigration Customs Enforcement.
Rodriguez is worried that if her relatives are deported back to Honduras, they will be killed. She said several of her family members have already been captured or killed in their home country.
"Some have already had their families captured and killed. So they obviously don’t want to go back there," Rodriguez said.
On Nov. 13, Charlotte County deputies, along with Border Patrol agents, swarmed a home to arrest Jorge Pineda, who was wanted on a warrant for assaulting a Border Patrol agent. When deputies arrived, they say Pineda attacked them, forcing them to use a Taser.
The seven others in the house tried to hide in a locked room or fled the scene. Rodriguez claims these men were her relatives, who were terrified they would be deported.
Rodriguez described a chaotic scene.
"My cousin, the one who got pushed against the wall, he fell against the wall," Rodriguez said.
Deputies arrested them for trespassing and for causing $2,500 worth of damages to the property.
Rodriguez insists there was a misunderstanding. She said her relatives had come to Port Charlotte to work, repairing homes damaged by Hurricane Milton.
"They work, they provide for their family. They do what they have to do, and they stay out of trouble," she said.
Rodriguez said her family was told by the person renting the home that they could stay there.
"They told him, you know, you are able to come stay here, you are able to crash here," she said.
Rodriguez drove all the way from Texas to try and bond her family out of jail, but now, some of them have already been taken by ICE. She said she is unable to locate them.
"I feel so stressed because everybody’s asking, ‘Have you heard anything about them? Where are they?’" Rodriguez said, breaking into tears.
