The Lee County School Board will vote Tuesday on the name-change approval of two public schools.
After offering several options and taking public input, the renaming committee for each school has recommended a final name. The committees each followed a previous process for renaming a school, which included public notices, community surveys, and a board briefing.
The board will vote to approve renaming Bayshore Elementary School to Bayshore School .
They say the reason for the change is a new outlook on the school's mission and purpose.
Fort Myers Middle Academy will also receive a name change, becoming Fort Myers Middle School. The committee said the reason for this is name confusion, impacts on hiring and school choice.
The school board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the School District of Lee County building at 2855 Colonial Blvd in Fort Myers.
This approval's effective date is November 20, 2024. The approval would authorize the superintendent to execute the change.
