The body of a 4-year-old boy reported missing from Ormond Beach was found in Central Park on Sunday night, according to Ormond Beach Police Department.
Officials said the Volusia County dive team recovered Waylon Childs' body from the water around 9 p.m.
The incident began when a father was at Central Park in Ormond Beach with his three young children, all under 5, when one went missing, according to the Ormond Beach Police Department.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a Missing Child Alert for the boy around noon, and multiple law enforcement agencies began searching the area for clues.
Officials conducted an exhaustive search covering all areas, including the ground, the air and the water, before locating Childs' body.
For now, police said they have ruled out any foul play, and they believe Childs got away from his dad. They also said Childs was nonverbal and had autism.
“This is a heartbreaking tragedy, and our hearts are with Waylon’s family during this unimaginable loss,” said Chief Jesse Godfrey. “We would like to thank the community and all the agencies involved for their support and efforts during this search. The Ormond Beach Police Department remains committed to standing with the family and our community in the days ahead.”
