The City of Cape Coral needs Lee County's help to manage how long people can keep their boats anchored in the Bimini Basin.
On Tuesday, residents are invited to chime in on the conversation and share what you think.
This proposal comes after Cape Coral bought 19 acres of land at the Bimini Basic around Cape Coral Parkway.
The plan is to modernize the area, but it forces landlords to displace local tenants.
Additionally, the city is requesting the county create an ordinance for how long people can anchor their boats in the basin. No more than 45 straight days in a six-month period.
Even though they requested this, they say it's temporary until a permanent mooring field is built.
Some residents who live nearby tell NBC2 they aren't liking these limitations and the redevelopment.
"They're trying to build it up and pretty much turn it into the next Miami. And it's kind of it's ruining what Cape Coral was known for," said local resident Johnny Skinner. "Cape Coral is literally a boat person city."
