Board members voted on Tuesday, approving the name-change of two Lee County public schools.
The school board meeting began at 6 p.m. at the School District of Lee County building at 2855 Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers.
The committees each followed a previous process for renaming a school, which included public notices, community surveys, and a board briefing.
The board voted to approve renaming Bayshore Elementary School to Bayshore School . The reason, a new outlook on the school's mission and purpose.
Fort Myers Middle Academy will also receive a name change, becoming Fort Myers Middle School. The committee said the reason for this is name confusion, impacts on hiring and school choice.
This approval's effective date begins on Wednesday. The approval authorizes the superintendent to execute the change.
