A victim has been identified in connection with a deadly crash on Alligator Alley Tuesday afternoon.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, at 10:53 a.m., a fatal crash occurred when a minivan collided with two workers who were laying sod on northbound I-75 at mile marker 72.
FHP said one of the workers, Juan Garcia, 39, was struck and killed while the other worker, Ahmed Munoz, 43, was hit by debris, which caused minor injuries.
The driver, Darian Camacho, 37, said he "had a long night and was trying to get away from some problems in Miami," before falling asleep at the wheel.
Reports say Camacho was living in his car in Miami. Camacho claimed he hadn't slept the night before because he was fleeing from "potential attackers." He also claims this happens to him almost every night and that he is always being watched.
Camacho is from Cuba and has never had a driver's license in the U.S.
The arrest report stated that Camacho had not consumed drugs or alcohol on the day of the crash.
According to the report from FHP, Camacho is facing charges of operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license, causing death and not having a license plate assigned.
