How was this data gathered?
Zippia uses Google Trends to determine what Thanksgiving side each state eats a disproportionate amount of in comparison to other states. The study examined over 20 Thanksgiving classics. From there, they determined which side is most highly searched.
What did they find?
According to the data, mashed potatoes are America's favorite with nine states crowning it the king of side dishes.
The second most popular side dish is rolls, favored by Florida, Utah, North Carolina and West Virginia.
Research suggests that 74% of Americans expect to eat at least four side dishes on Thanksgiving.
Seventy-five percent of Thanksgiving meals feature mashed potatoes and stuffing or dressing, 69% feature rolls, 64% have cranberry sauce and 59% delve in the sweet potatoes.
